Trees and distribution: Large trees, up to 25~35m, 1.0~2.5m in diameter, with large roots, known as the "king of African trees". There is only one species of this genus. Distributed in Central Africa and West Africa. The main import is from Gabon, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. It is the largest and most important material for West African plywood.
Structural features: Bark, thickness 0.5~0.8cm, harder, easy to block off. The outer skin is taupe; it is easy to fall off in small pieces and remains shallow pits; the fine point-like lenticels are dense. The endothelium is dark reddish brown; the fiber is developed and easy to join the party. When the fresh bark just peeled off, the surface of the material was reddish yellow. Cross section: The difference between heart and sapwood is slightly obvious. Heartwood orange red to light reddish brown. The sapwood is gray and narrow. The growth wheel is not obvious. Macrostructure: loose pore material. The tube hole is visible to the naked eye, slightly less, medium in size; the main is a single tube hole, and there are very few diameter tube holes (2~3). It is almost invisible under the axial thin-walled tissue magnifying glass. The wood ray magnifying glass is obvious, thin to medium and narrow.
Wood properties: Strong gloss. Straight texture; fine and uniform structure; light weight; soft hardness; low strength; Easy to process, containing silica, the tool is easy to blunt; when there is ripple and luster, tasteless. The wood is fine, the color difference is small, there is no knuckle, the veneer has good cutting and cutting performance; the surface is slightly raised; the adhesive property is good; the nail is easy. Slightly resistant to corrosion. Fast drying and no defects. The air dry density is 0.48 g/cm3.
Wood use: Suitable for rotary cutting veneers, plywood, blockboard, furniture, wood molds, packing boxes, light components, musical instruments, etc. It is the most important plywood rotary cutting material.
