Toshiba Lighting Technology Develops LED Bulbs with GaN Power Components

Toshiba Lighting Technology has developed halogen LED bulbs that use GaN power elements in power circuits. The new product will be launched on March 6, 2015. Compared with the original use of silicon power devices, the use of GaN power devices can operate at approximately 700 times the frequency of the former. As a result, the area of ​​the main circuit portion of the power supply can be miniaturized to about 40% of the company's original product.
The dimming function was added to the space that was vacated due to miniaturization in the new product. With phase dimming control ICs and dimming control software, not only LED-specific dimmers, but also incandescent dimmers also support "PREMIUM dimming technology" function. This function can suppress the fluctuation of the power supply voltage and the flickering of the light due to waveform distortion. In addition, dimming can be smoothly performed from 0% (light off) to 100% (full light).
The LED bulbs developed this time have two products with luminous fluxes of 200lm and 250lm, respectively. The suggested retail price is 7,500 yen (excluding tax). In terms of target sales, the two products totaled 60,000.
