Scientists use light and humidity to "fix" defects in perovskite
A joint research team from Oxford, Cambridge and Bath University in the United Kingdom, MIT in the United States, and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands found that by carefully using light and humidity, defects in the crystalline perovskite structure can be permanently repaired. This discovery is sufficient to accelerate the development of existing perovskite solar cells.
In perovskite solar cells and LEDs, defects cause a large loss of conversion efficiency. The team discovered earlier that this defect can be temporarily repaired by using light, and now they have found a more lasting method.
The team created a perovskite device that is compatible with retractable roll-to-roll production technology. Before manufacturing, they exposed it to light, oxygen and humidity for 30 minutes, then deposited the remaining layers to complete the device. Manufacturing.
The use of light and the proper level of humidity allow the electrons and oxygen to combine to form superoxide, preventing defects from hindering the electrons. The presence of humidity makes the surface of the perovskite a protective shell, removes surface defects, locks in superoxide, and allows the healing effect to last longer.
The researchers said that the luminous efficiency has been seen to increase from 1% to 89% and that 100% can be achieved, which means that there is almost no voltage loss, but of course there is still a lot of work to be done.
