Mercedes-Benz also pushes home battery products to challenge Tesla

According to the Digital Trends website, Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will launch battery products for homes and small businesses by the end of this year. Initially, Mercedes-Benz battery products will only be sold in the German market, and the sales market may be extended to other European countries and even the United States in the near future.

Mercedes-Benz executives pointed out that the decision to get involved in the home battery market is not a direct response to Tesla's recent announcement. Mercedes-Benz outsources lithium-ion battery packs for hybrid and electric vehicles to its wholly-owned subsidiary Accumotive. Since 2012, Accumotive has been producing large-capacity battery packs for large commercial and industrial facilities.

According to Digital Trends, from a chemical point of view, Mercedes-Benz's home battery is closely related to the company's automotive lithium-ion battery pack. The Mercedes-Benz home battery works in a similar way to Tesla's products: it is mounted on the wall, charging the battery pack during periods of low electricity consumption that are cheap, and is turned on during peak hours of high electricity usage. If the user needs a higher capacity, two or three battery packs can be connected together, and a home user considering a reduced electricity bill can connect the battery pack to a solar cell or a wind turbine.

Tesla received about 40,000 reservation orders after the Powerwall series of home and commercial battery products were announced last month. Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently revealed that Powerwall's production in the first half of next year has been sold. Empty. Mercedes-Benz expects its battery products to receive similar responses from buyers in Germany. Mercedes-Benz battery products are aimed at environmentally conscious affluent households, or small and medium-sized enterprises that need to reliably back up data in the event of a power failure, and islands with unstable power supply.

According to Digital Trends, Mercedes-Benz will disclose details of household batteries in the coming weeks, and the delivery time of the products is tentatively scheduled for late summer or early autumn.
