Seco Tools introduces a damping face milling cutter
The Steadyline passive dynamic damping system from Seco Tools increases productivity and reduces processing costs.
The vibration-damping face milling shank can significantly increase the dynamic stiffness of the milling cutter assembly to cope with higher cutting conditions, and is quieter and more stable during processing. Key benefits include higher productivity, better surface finish and longer tool and spindle life. In the absence of a damping system, the cutting conditions must be adjusted according to the limits of the tool holder (natural frequency). In order to obtain the best cutting conditions, a lengthy and troublesome FFT frequency analysis is required. Steadyline gives the answer to this question, an efficient and cost-effective solution that is quieter to process and ready to use, making it easier to handle higher cutting conditions than traditional solutions ( Cutting speed, 2~4 times cutting depth), thus greatly improving the metal removal rate. It can increase the efficiency of typical long overhang processing to twice that of conventional systems and extend tool life. Compared to the equivalent integral shank, the Steadyline face milling shank has a three-fold increase in dynamic stiffness, which allows for longer-to-diameter ratios greater than 5 times the aperture for optimum cutting conditions.
