How to grow more nutritious melons

Melon sales have been the fastest growing of all types of fruit in the past 15 years. From 1989 to 2004, the consumption of melons in the United States increased by 23%, reaching an average of 30 pounds per person per year. It is estimated that the annual retail sales of the melon market is between $3 billion and $4 billion. The nutritional value of melon is very rich in itself. The secret of the researchers is the glycine-potassium fertilizer mixture or potassium chloride fertilizer. They spray these food-grade fertilizers on the leaves of melons such as cantaloupe, honeydew melon, and average weekly fertilization during their four to six week growth period. After the fertilizer was absorbed by the leaves and melon, the beta carotene content in the melon was significantly improved. In addition, since these fertilizers promote photosynthesis, the sugar content and vitamin C content in the melon are also greatly increased. As a precursor of vitamin A, beta carotene has anti-cancer and anti-cataract effects.
The researchers also found that melons with potassium fertilizer can be aged for two to three days on average. These potashes are inherently low cost and safe for plants and humans. They can be conveniently sprayed together with the pesticide. In related research, it was found that calcium can improve the disease resistance of melon plants and extend the shelf life of melons. Therefore, growers can use these two types of fertilizers to produce longer-lived, more nutritious melons.
