1 Introduction

The fan gearbox is the transmission component that connects the fan shaft and the generator. It converts the low-speed input of the spindle into the output required by a medium- or high-speed generator, and is one of the important components in the fan. Due to the complex working conditions of the fan gearbox and the high requirements for reliability, the design and application of the fan gearbox, especially the selection, installation and use of the bearing as the key component are particularly important. Improper bearing selection or improper installation and use can result in various damage and failure modes of the bearing and may even damage other components in the gearbox. These damages and failures can directly or indirectly cause fan downtime, which not only affects productivity, but also creates unplanned replacement and maintenance costs. 2. Common failure modes and solutions for fan gearbox Bearings

Fan gearboxes are available in a variety of designs, but are basically composed of line stars and parallel stages. In this paper, a common design with a planetary carrier as the input, the inner ring gear is fixed, and the sun gear is output and transmitted to the parallel stage is taken as an example to analyze the common bearing failure modes and corresponding solutions.

2.1 planet carrier bearing

2.1.1 Common failure modes:

The selection and application of the planet carrier bearings is related to the design of the spindle. The currently common planetary carrier bearings are cylindrical roller bearings with full complement rollers. If the spindle bearing uses a spherical roller bearing, whether it is a 3-point bearing design of a single spherical roller spindle bearing or a 4-point bearing design of two spherical roller spindle bearings, due to the radial and axial direction of the spherical roller bearing The presence of the play (as shown in Figure 1), when the fan is in the brakes or other conditions where the axial load alternates direction, the main shaft and the planet carrier connected behind it may be tilted in the axial direction. At this time, if a cylindrical roller bearing is used as the carrier bearing, since the inner and outer rings have a certain relative misalignment space in the axial direction, the axial sway from the main shaft is transmitted to the cylindrical roller bearing of the carrier, and if If the amount of turbulence is large enough, it will cause an impact on the cylindrical roller bearing. Moreover, since the ring gear and the gearbox housing are integrally connected, the axial rotation of the planet gear and the planet carrier also causes tooth surface wear on the planet gears (as shown in Figure 2).
