Use and preservation of grass ash
In rural areas, straw and firewood of various crops are used as fuel, and the ash after burning is called ash. This is the main source of potash in rural areas. It can not only be used as a base fertilizer for sweet potato, wheat and other crops, but also can be used as a fertilizer on beans. The composition of plant ash is quite complicated. The ash elements contained in plants are found in grass ash, such as phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium and sulfur. Among them, potassium, phosphorus and calcium are abundant, and potassium is generally 5%-10%. Regardless of the ash content of the plant, the potassium contained is soluble, quick-acting, and can be directly absorbed and utilized by the crop. Grass ash is an alkaline fertilizer. Pay attention to the following four points during use and preservation:
1. The plant ash is an alkaline fertilizer and should not be mixed and mixed with ammonium sulfate and ammonium nitrate. Ammonium sulfate, ammonium nitrate and ammonium hydrogencarbonate are all ammonium nitrogen fertilizers. If they are mixed with grass ash, the nitrogen in the nitrogen fertilizer will be turned into ammonia gas to run away. When using ash and ash together with acid fertilizers, be careful not to mix them together.
Second, the grass ash should not be mixed with human excrement and livestock excrement. It is a mistake to use rural ash to pour grass ash into a pit or pig pen. Livestock excrement, human excrement, etc. are a kind of delayed-effect acid nitrogen fertilizer. For example, the alkaline ash is poured into acid-containing livestock excrement and human excrement, and the acid-base neutralization causes ammonia to volatilize, thereby reducing fertilizer efficiency. When the plant ash is mixed with livestock excrement for 1 week, the ammonium nitrogen in the excreta can be lost by more than half. The longer the mixing time, the more nitrogen loss.
Third, the nutrients in the plant ash are easily soluble in water. In order to preserve the ash, it should be stored separately in a place such as a ash warehouse or a gray shed to shelter from the wind and rain. After the rain, the ash will be seriously damaged.
4. Grass ash can not be mixed and mixed with superphosphate, which will reduce the effectiveness of phosphorus.
