Japan develops the use of automobile exhaust power generation technology

The Japan Industrial Technology Research Institute and the auto parts manufacturer ATSUMITEC jointly developed a technology that uses motorcycles and automobile exhaust gas to generate electricity. This technology converts under-burned components and exhaust gas waste heat into electrical energy by a fuel cell and a thermoelectric conversion element, respectively. Researchers installed solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) and thermoelectric conversion elements at the engine exhaust to convert the under-burned components and exhaust heat of nearly 500 degrees Celsius into electrical energy for recovery.
