Product development trends
In machining, the final result of machining operations is mainly reflected in machining accuracy. The dimensional accuracy of the machined part is expressed as the linear distance between two points, based on the "point". The detection of the base point with high precision is an important basic parameter for judging the performance of the machine tool. Among the sensors used to detect the position of a point on the workpiece, include contact sensors and non-contact optical displacement sensors. The advantage of the optical displacement sensor is that it does not require contact with the workpiece, but if the reflective surface is tilted and shiny, measurement cannot be performed. The contact sensor is measured by means of contact with the workpiece, and the detection object is more, and the detection effect is also good. At present, there is no product that can completely replace the contact sensor. When using a touch probe for contact detection, the probe can be made very fine. Contact sensors have many types of structures, such as probes that use tiny mechanical contact points, probes that detect the size and shape of the workpiece by changes in ultrasonic vibration, and probes that detect the size of the workpiece by detecting the change in damping of the strain gauges. There is also a transmission type contact probe, which uses a strain gauge to solve the problem that the directional characteristic (pre-stroke change) of the previous probe is difficult to grasp. The emergence of these new products can further improve the accuracy of measurement (especially 3D measurement).
Sensors are not only commonly used in machining, but also in many other fields related to machining. For example, the identification of the workpiece, the mounting position of the workpiece, and the judgment of whether the installation is good or not can be detected by the sensor; other detectable contents include card loading error, slack, clamping force, alignment, and the like. The above test items can be realized by small contact switches or limit switches. 
In the aspect of cutting tool identification or tool life control, an electromagnetic hybrid tool ID system can be used. When detecting the position of the cutting edge, a contact probe is mainly used.
In addition to meeting the above requirements, the development of sensors has recently paid special attention to environmental protection and operational safety. Around these two major points, a variety of new sensors have been developed for the market.
